We are so pleased to share some favorite images from our featured photographer, Aubrey Dettmer of Applewood Photography. Aubrey was the winner of our monthly theme for November so along with being featured she will be guest judging one of our weekly themes.
We asked Aubrey what inspires her to pick up her camera and start shooting,
'I bought my camera to capture big milestones in my children's lives, but instead I use it primarily for documentary, everyday happenings in my daughter's life. I grab my camera more often than I ought to probably, but I feel like my daughter is always exploring something new and I want to capture all of that. We waited a long time to blessed with a baby, and I don't want to lose a moment of her amazing life. I already worry about what I'll do when my kids are grown and I don't have little ones to photograph...and she's only 2!
The biggest motivator for me is a combination of the light in the scene and what she's doing. If the light is boring, I probably won't worry about it. But sometimes she doesn't have to be doing anything at all, and if the light is there, I can't help but capture it. I'm a big sucker for dramatic window light where you get that perfect mix of soft light and deep shadows.
I think my daughter is more beautiful than I could have imagined and she's so animated, it makes it hard to know when to just put the camera down and live in the moment, but I'm working on it. And now with Baby #2 on the way, it may be even harder!'
Now for some beautiful images <3
