We are so pleased to share some favorite images from our featured photographer, Ethel Firmalino of M + E Photography. Ethel was the winner of our monthly theme for January so along with being featured she will be guest judging one of our weekly themes.
We asked Ethel what inspires her to pick up her camera and start shooting,
''Before I had kids, travelling was a definite inspiration. I loved trying to capture and remember each place through my camera -- the sites, the food, the people and the overall energy of a particular locale. On one particular trip, I lugged around over thirty rolls of film in my backpack for three months or so. Ah, the dedication and anticipation.
Fast forward to my current life and five years prior, the inspiration and the reason to pick up my camera has evolved a little bit. I still love capturing the beauty around me that stops me in my tracks, but my main source of inspiration has shifted to my little family. My reason to pick up a camera has become more personal (for lack of a better word); a way to express myself and my connection to my family. I wanted to document and tell our shared stories; to celebrate our togetherness and who we are and what we mean to each other; to create and remember. Through my camera, I am writing my family a love letter, albeit, an extremely long love letter! "
Isn't that beautiful!
