With each season comes change and growth. I knew this year would be a year of change. I seem to always find myself in a season of shifting, whether in my personal life or business. But it seems to be more evident in my journey as a photographer. When the winds of change come around, I feel them leading me in a new direction. My vision broadens and my focus shifts to a new level. My need for perfection flies out the window as I begin to see with a new set of eyes. I learn to slowdown and fully embrace the shifting winds.
Of course it’s never an easy thing to walk through. It’s the in-between parts of the season where you can easily get stuck in the dreadful creative rut. These seasonal interludes can cause you to feel like you’re going back instead of going forward. Your vision weakens and you quickly lose focus. The feelings of doubt and failure start to creep in telling you “you’re just not good enough” over and over again, trying to suffocate your creative spirit. It’s during these times of shifting where we are tested the most. Despite having to go through the growing pains of change, these seasonal intervals are vital to our artist physique.
Why else would it be so hard to push through?
Being creative will push you out of that in-between place. Instead of shutting down, get out, shoot and create. Do not let the fear of failure prevent you from taking the next step. The place that you’re in is only meant to further you in your journey. Don’t reject it. Remember, it’s all part of your journey. Set a slow and steady pace for yourself and allow the shifting winds to carry you through your season of change. And don't worry, they'll always lead you to the right place.
I was so honored to be able to write a Courage To Grow post this week, a special thanks to Cindy for allowing me this opportunity.
