This months ‘Featured Artist’ is Sarah Keene of Sarah Keene Photography. Sarah’s work really impressed us this month, we are thrilled to have her to join us for September. Sarah has such a beautiful talent and we are so happy to have her.
We asked Sarah what inspires her to pick up her camera and start shooting:
"The ‘silent’ theme for the month of August really could not have been a more apt theme for me! I am particularly thrilled to be featured this month! I love silence. I love to observe and ponder, to wonder quietly and think before I open my mouth. I’ve always been fond of the quote “better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” It makes me laugh every time! Of course my silence doesn’t mean a lack of thought or consideration. I have quite a lot on my mind all the time. There is so much to take in, to be thankful for, and to enjoy. I think my husband finally understood how my mind worked when I told him it was like an internet browser with 100 tabs open all at once.
In light of all this, photography has been an incredible form of expression for me. I get to dabble in art! And I get to use art to show my dearest people what they look like through my eyes. I am able to show them how beautiful they are to me, and while I tell my children about 100 times a day that I love them, I also get to show them. They get to see the image now, feel it now, AND hold on to that image and look at it later. They can see these things when they’re teenagers, when they have families of their own, and even pass them on to future generations when I am long gone. My goal with photography is simply that- in silence, expressing much and loving much.
I photograph because I want to give my family a good gift—a record of our days together. I want to record those small and unexpected beautiful and surprising things that our eyes would otherwise miss. I want my images to show the messy hair, the paint-stained fingers, and the JOY that we share together. I want my children to look at these pictures and know MY MOM LOVES ME. She loves my pig tails. She loves when I don a fleece tiger suit for a week in the hottest part of the summer. She loves my big fat baby belly and how, when the light is just right, the shadows make it look even bigger. It is my hope that my photography loves deeply and that it will be a good gift for generations to come.
I truly am thrilled to be a part of Journey To Artist this month. You all have created such a beautiful community. Your collective art is soulful, passionate, artistic and so fabulously creative. I am truly in awe of what you do. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for having me along this month.”
Thank you so much for joining us this month Sarah!
Now for some beautiful images ...
